Located in an old schoolhouse. An art gallery features the work of local artists. The nature room has many displays such as an observation beehive, geologic history of the island, weather phenomena, and information about fish, birds and wildlife of the area. A naturalist leads hikes. Open

Baseball

Sunday afternoons during the summer, the Islanders team plays mainland teams in the Door County Baseball League. The Little League, sponsored by the Lions Club, plays teams from the County on Friday evenings and have repeated themselves as league champions.

An annual two day event includes guided tours, dinner and special speaker. Come and explore a major flyway with friends or, come and make new friends in a natural wonderland set in a community rich in history.
May 31st: Water, shore & forest habitats. June 1st: Interior grasslands, wetlands and Rock Island. Beginner to experienced birders welcome. Lodging, eateries, small shops and many cultural attractions to enhance your visit.

Boating & Fishing

Protected harbors offer the boaters and fishermen choices of marinas and docking facilities. Boat storage, boat ramps, boat repairs and fishing licenses are supplied by the marinas. Public boat ramps are available at the Rock Island State Dock in Jackson Harbor and Welcome Center in Detroit Harbor.
Excellent fishing spots are located in the waters around Washington Island. Perch, smallmouth black bass, northern pike and rock bass abound. There is excellent trolling for lake trout, brown trout and chinook salmon and 30 lb. salmon are not uncommon catches. Charter fishing services whose captains know all the best fishing spots, can provide a day of fun. Launching fee charged.
